Mandatory application of the Bauxite Ore schedule: This schedule applies to Bauxite cargoes containing particle size distribution (PSD) as follows: either (1) 30% or less of fine particles less than 1 mm (D30 ≥ 1 mm); or (2) 40% or less of fine particles less than 2.5 mm (D40 ≥ 2.5 mm); or (3)both; or (4)where the shipper provides the master with a certificate, stating that the moisture of the cargo freely drains from the cargo so that the degree of saturation is not liable to reach 70% based on result of test approved by the competent authority of port of loading ( Refer to 1.6 of Appendix 2 of the IMSBC Code).
Description: reddish brown to brownish-yellow. Clay-like and earthy mineral. Not soluble in water. Bulk density: 1,100 - 2,000 kg/m3. Non-IMSBC Code information: Bauxites, within limits, are composed of similar minerals; namely, gibbsite, boehmite, kaolinite, quartz and hematite. Depending on where bauxites come from and the method of processing, there are large differences in the PSD and in terms of appearance, can be described ranging from silt with much gravel to silty gravel with sand and cobbles and the particle shape ranges from spherical and round to angular.
